
Mas and Pas
Equipment List for Mas & Pas to provide for their Trek family
Required:
One 5 gallon jug for the handcart
Three tents with tarps - one for girls, one for boys, one for Ma and Pa (Logistics will transport these)
20-30’ rope for the handcart
Paracord + carabiners to attach water bottles to the handcart
Snacks for the handcart - nothing that will melt, be aware of any food allergies in your family
Battery powered lantern with extra batteries for camp
First aid kit for the handcart – should include basic supplies to treat bleeds, blisters, bites, burns, dehydration (electrolyte packets)
Not required but recommended:
Extra pairs of knee high pantyhose for the handcart
Extra hand sanitizer or wipes
Extra feminine sanitary supplies
Extra toilet paper or disposable wipes for the handcart
A hammer or mallet for camp
Basic supplies for family games or activities - to do on the trail or at camp
Garbage or ziploc bags for the handcart
An extra tarp for the handcart
Consecrated oil

Enhance the spiritual experiences
Build unity
Challenge youth to participate wholeheartedly – encourage your youth to have good equipment/shoes, walk and prepare physically
Set expectations - Work together, show respect to each other
Keep things positive
Help the family youth leaders (role of graduating seniors)
Be there - be present for the entire trek and walk with your group the entire way
Be flexible
Lead Family Discussions – take advantage of time on the trail and in evenings (testify of truth)
Maintain hydration & encourage safety
Keep track of participants
Notes for Mas & Pas
Watch over families – make sure each youth is eating and drinking plenty. Also remind them to use sunscreen and insect repellent
Please do not share much about daily schedule with the youth. We will need to be flexible, times WILL change
Be on time to start each day, including arriving at Stake Center on the first day
Please DO NOT inform the youth of which family/handcart they will be in until trek begins
Start to get to know your youth – love them and pray for them
Bring extra snacks (that won’t melt) for your families!
Spiritual Preparation
Daily Prayer – personal and family
Listening to and heeding the Spirit (Open our hearts to see God’s hand)
Studying the Book of Mormon and other scriptures regularly, giving special attention to the gospel principles that can be taught on trek
Go to temple regularly
Learning about Church history, ancestors, and handcard pioneers
Improving teaching and listening skills
